Job description
We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join a Platform Engineering team responsible for building and operating an internal cloud platform supporting software engineering, data engineering, and AI teams across a global organization.
The role focuses on cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevSecOps, cloud governance, and developer enablement. The platform is already mature and running in production, with ongoing expansion and long-term product ownership.
This is an opportunity to work on enterprise-scale cloud platforms, influence architecture, improve developer experience, and build modern platform capabilities using technologies such as Azure, AKS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and Backstage.
Location: Würzburg, Germany
Work model: 100% remote
Working hours: Normal business hours
Experience: 8+ years, ideally 8–10+ years
Development vs. maintenance: ~60–70% new development / 30–40% maintenance
Role focus: 100% Platform / Infrastructure Engineering
Business vs. IT: ~10% Business / 90% IT

Your responsibilities
• Design and implement cloud platform services and capabilities
• Build self-service solutions enabling engineering teams to work more efficiently
• Automate infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
• Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines
• Manage and continuously improve Kubernetes / AKS environments
• Implement and promote DevSecOps best practices
• Define and improve security, IAM, RBAC, and governance standards
• Improve monitoring, observability, reliability, and performance
• Lead troubleshooting and incident management
• Develop automation and developer tooling to improve engineering productivity
• Collaborate with engineering teams and technical leadership on platform strategy
• Mentor engineers and contribute to architectural decisions
• Take ownership of platform capabilities throughout their lifecycle

Our requirements
To succeed at this job, you must have:
• 8+ years of professional experience, ideally in Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Infrastructure
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
• Solid experience with Kubernetes, preferably Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Strong expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
• Strong background in CI/CD pipelines
• Practical experience with DevSecOps
• Good understanding of cloud security, IAM, RBAC, secrets management, and governance
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and reliability
• Strong automation and scripting skills
• Experience working in an Agile environment
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ownership mindset and confidence to challenge technical decisions
• Experience working in product-oriented engineering organizations
It would be preferred if you have:
• Experience with Backstage and Internal Developer Portals
• Enterprise-scale Terraform experience
• Experience with large Kubernetes environments
• Strong hands-on experience with AKS
• Experience with GitHub Actions and ArgoCD
• Experience building self-service developer platforms
• Background in Platform Engineering or Internal Developer Platforms
• Experience with cloud governance and enterprise DevSecOps
