ANNEX 1. - GOING GREEN AT WORK: TOP TIPS

More Work, Less Energy

For many people, a computer is the central tool at work. Optimizing the energy settings for computers and other devices can be more than a modest energy saver. Set computers to energy-saving settings and make sure to shut them down when you leave for the day (“standby” settings will continue to draw power even when not in use). By plugging hardware into a power strip with an on/off switch , the whole desktop setup can be turned off at once (make sure to power down inkjet printers before killing the power—they need to seal their cartridges). Printers, scanners, and other peripherals that are only used occasionally can be unplugged until they’re needed. And of course, turn off lights in spaces that are unoccupied.

Digitalize

It does seem a bit strange that in the “digital age” we still consume enormous amounts of mashed up, bleached tree pulp, most of which gets used once or twice and then tossed or recycled. The greenest paper is no paper at all, so keep things digital and dematerialized whenever possible. The more you do online, the less you need paper. Keep files on computers instead of in file cabinets (this also makes it easier to make offsite backup copies or take them with you when you move to a new office). Review documents onscreen rather than printing them out. Send emails instead of paper letters. New software like Greenprint helps eliminate blank pages from documents before printing and can also convert to PDF for paperless document sharing.

Don't Be a Paper Pusher

When buying printer paper, look for recycled paper with a high percentage of post-consumer content and the minimum of chlorine bleaching. Even recycled paper gobbles up a great deal of energy, water, and chemical resources in its processing (toxic pulp slurry is the paper recycling industry’s dirty secret). When using the real stuff, print on both sides of the page when appropriate and use misprints as notepaper. Try to choose printers and photocopiers that do double-sided printing. If your office ships packages, reuse boxes and use shredded waste paper as packing material.

Use Green Materials

Some paper use can't be avoided, so use recycled paper and envelopes that have been processed and colored using eco-friendly methods. Pens and pencils can also be made of recycled materials, and refillable pens and markers are preferable to disposable ones. Use biodegradable soaps and recycled paper or cloth towels in the bathroom and kitchen, and provide biodegradable cleaners for the custodial staff. Buy in bulk so that shipping and packaging waste are reduced, and reuse the shipping boxes. Recycling printer cartridges is often free, and recycled replacements are cheaper than new ones.

Redesign the Workplace

Greening the space in which you work has almost limitless possibilities. Start with good lighting, and good air.  Incandescent bulbs can be replaced with compact fluorescents and there is an ever-growing selection of high-end LED desk lamps that use miniscule amounts of energy. Not only is natural daylight a free source of lighting for the office, it has been proven to improve worker productivity and satisfaction (as well as boost sales in retail settings). Workspace air quality is also crucial.

Lunch Time

Bringing lunch to work in reusable containers is likely the greenest (and healthiest) way to eat at work. Getting delivery and takeout almost inevitably ends with a miniature mountain of packaging waste. But if you do order delivery, join coworkers in placing a large order (more efficient than many separate ones). Also, bring in a reusable plate, utensils, and napkins. If you do go out for lunch, try biking or walking instead of driving.

Get Others in on the Act

Share these tips with your colleagues. Ask your boss to purchase carbon offsets for corporate travel by car and plane. Arrange an office carpool or group bike commute. Trade shifts and job duties so that you can work four long days instead of five short ones. Ask the office manager to get fair trade coffee for the break room and make sure everyone has a small recycling bin so that recycling is just as easy as throwing paper away. Ask everyone to bring in a mug or glass from home and keep some handy for visitors so that you reduce or eliminate use of paper cups.

Green Work: By Numbers

Once: the number of times that most of the more than 25 billion cartons manufactured in the U.S. are used.
55 percent: the amount of water saved by producing recycled paper as compared to virgin paper. Recycled paper also takes 60-70 percent less energy to produce than paper from virgin pulp.
120: the number of tons of steel saved if every UK office worker used one less staple a day.
8 billion: the number of gallons of gas saved if every commuter car in the U.S. carried just one more person.

ANNEX 2. - NATEK ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN

In accordance with its Environmental Policy, NATEK establishes its Environmental Plan consisting of several environmental goals and programs designed to achieve these goals and promote a sense of environmental responsibility over all NATEK Group sites.

ENVIRONMENTAL GOALS

NATEK Environmental goals are reasonably consistent with Company’s size, structure and conditions and will aim to enable the Company to make the improvements necessary to build satisfying environmental standards. The goals will introduce necessary changes into Company's environmental performance and will allow the Company to build appropriate introductory environmental management system open to continual improvement.
EG1: NATEK will continue to keep its environmental system in accordance with legislation of resident country.
EG2: NATEK will implement all applicable monitoring measurements for energy consumption, water consumption and paper consumption by the August 2012.
EG3: NATEK will gradually develop and fully implement procedures for a decrease of paper consumption by the end of 2012.
EG4: NATEK will gradually develop and fully implement procedures for proper waste disposal by the end of 2012.
EG5: NATEK will reduce total consumption of electricity by the end of 2013 by 2% compare to 2012 for following branches: Bratislava-Slovakia, Brno-Czech Republic, Sofia-Bulgaria, Krakow – Poland.
EG6: NATEK will gradually develop and fully implement systems of controls and reviews assessing Company's environmental performance and fulfillment of NATEK Environmental Plan.

ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAMS:

EG2: NATEK will implement all applicable monitoring measurements for energy consumption, water consumption and paper consumption by August 2012.
By August 2012, all relevant NATEK branches will monitor and measure the monthly consumption of energy, water and paper for further statistical purposes. All branches will gather all relevant information which will be put into the templates same for every branch.
The Person responsible for whole NATEK Groups' environmental policy will then proceed the data into summarizing chart, which will be evaluated for overall performance and achievement of the goals, for which the monitoring measurements will be required. This will be done after a branch template is done at the end of the month, the person responsible for whole environmental policy will thus require and gather all individual branch data at the end of each month.

EG3: NATEK will gradually develop and fully implement procedures for a decrease of paper consumption by the end of 2012.

Based on the monitoring of the paper consumption, a thorough consideration will be paid to the gradual decrease of the consumption of the paper with the following measures which should be developed till the end of 2012:

  • all documentation which does not have to be printed on paper will be stored electronically in local computers only
  • all documentation which does not have to be printed on plain new paper will be printed on already used paper which would otherwise go to waste
  • all internal procedures which outputs currently have to be printed on paper will be gradually transferred to an electronic procedure system supported by NATEK Intranet system
  • other measures will be elaborated after periodical evaluation of paper consumption monitoring

EG4: NATEK will gradually develop and fully implement procedures for proper waste disposal by the end of 2012.

Paper represents a major part of waste NATEK disposes. New measures for proper waste disposal will be therefore focused on paper disposal, which should be fully implemented till the end of 2012.
Where applicable, NATEK branches will separate paper waste which will be disposed to public containers indented for paper waste. Paper waste will be stored separately, to ensure that mixing with other waste will not be possible.

EG5: NATEK will reduce total Group consumption of electricity by the end of 2013 by 2% compare to 2011.

After a paper consumption, energy is another natural resource which is dominantly consumed by NATEK.
In order to decrease the energy consumption by 2% in 2013 when compared to 2012, following measures will be employed where applicable:
• all Employees will be educated how to contribute to the decrease of electricity consumption while performing their work - every Employee will be obliged to turn off every electrical appliance and machines (e.g. computers, monitors, scanners) when not in use (e.g. when leaving the work), the lights in unoccupied rooms should be turned off after an Employee is leaving the room, other measures will be introduced to decrease the electricity consumption

EG6: NATEK will gradually develop and fully implement systems of controls and reviews assessing Company's environmental performance and fulfillment of NATEK Environmental Plan.

System of internal audits revising the fulfillment of Environmental goals will be developed and gradually tested in relevant branches. The plan of internal audits will be prepared and implemented, periodical evaluations of the successful utilization of internal audits may be proposed.
